GP – YPPP (YOUTH PREGNANCY PARENTING PROGRAM) VCH

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a 0.2 FTE family physician (~90 sessions/annually) for the Youth Pregnancy Parenting Program (YPPP) starting in April 2019
YPPP is a pregnancy outreach program for women aged 24 and under who live in the Vancouver Community of Care. YPPP clients have access to nutrition counseling with a dietitian; social supports through peers & a support worker; health education through public health nursing & allied professionals; and food access programming. YPPP clients who have difficulty accessing primary care and/or maternity care can access these services through the YPPP medical clinic which operates on Mondays and Thursdays at the Robert & Lily Lee Family Community Health Centre, at 1669 E Broadway. Reporting directly to the Medical Director, the physician who accepts this position will join the interdisciplinary team at YPPP in providing evidence-based, quality care for a marginalized & complex population of pregnant and parenting youth. He/she will be responsible for providing direct clinical services to patients at YPPP alongside a Vancouver Community Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. He/she will foster a collaborative inter-professional practice environment that enhances client-centered, trauma informed, culturally sensitive services at YPPP. The physician at YPPP will maintain active privileges for intrapartum obstetrics at BC Women’s Hospital or St Paul’s Hospital, in addition to VCH.
On-Call/After Hour Requirements
To ensure a seamless system of patient care for clients of YPPP between community and acute, the physician must either participate in 24/7 call group (e.g. Family Practice Maternity Service) or assume full 24/7 maternity coverage on their own.
A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure in good standing, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Current Canadian Medical Protection Association, or equivalent, coverage. Be a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider and be able to prescribe opioid agonist therapy. Eligibility for a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, School of Medicine is required. In addition, the candidate will have:
• Experience in and a commitment to caring for marginalized populations
• A demonstrated ability in working as a member of an inter-professional health care team
• A passion for providing maternity care
• Privileges with BCWCH or St. Paul's Hospital
• A trauma informed approach to care
• A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, including shared care
Remuneration will be in accordance with the BCMA/MSP negotiated sessional contract (template available on the Doctors of BC website, or in hardcopy through this office.) All overhead costs are born by VCH.
