There are no specific on call requirements.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Family Physician with a demonstrated special interest in maternal and child health including breastfeeding. Minimum qualifications include membership in the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and a willingness to obtain the Lactation Consultant IBCLC qualification. Clinical supervision and mentorship can be arranged. There are ample opportunities for developing areas of particular expertise including prenatal lactation assessments, high risk fetal/maternal medicine, in hospital breastfeeding consultations and clinical teaching and research. We are looking for physicians who have a demonstrated interest in maternal and child care who are willing to take on a leadership role in the promotion, protection and support of breastfeeding with our community
Breastfeeding Medicine is a rewarding subspecialty, both professionally and financially. It requires good problem solving and practical" hands on" skills. The working hours are compatible with family life. The patient population is varied and a pleasure to help. The members of the group provide coverage for each other during holidays etc.
The office suite is owned by the MD's. Two MOA's oversee the smooth running of the clinic. There is a large waiting room and four examining rooms, with two physicians working simultaneously. Each MD works 2-3 days per week.

The Vancouver Breastfeeding Clinic is centrally located in Vancouver, close to Vancouver Hospital. It is on the major bus routes, sky train and access is easy.
65/35 MSP payments for the first year to compensate for the mentorship guidance given.
70/30 MSP payments subsequently.
Family Practice initial referral consultations are billed for both Mother and Infant. Subsequent billings are done according to the standard Family Practice Fee for service schedule for each patient seen. The gross billings are usually slightly above those of a city Family Physician.

Breastfeeding Medicine is a rapidly expanding subspecialty. There are only a few physicians dedicating their time to this and the clinical demands have outstripped the available services. This position offers an unique opportunity for a physician interested in refocusing their career. There are no specific perks except the offer to help a doctor to upgrade his or her skills so that, over time, they will become an expert and vital resource in the community. A serious commitment is expected from the candidate for a minimum of 2 years, due to the time taken to offer mentorship mentorship
